Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

There is just something about being out in the open air and being able to breathe in without having to take in all those traffic fumes. If you are going on a UK holiday this year where you will be spending most of your time outdoors, what activities do you normally partake in?

The following are examples of some of the pursuits you can enjoy here in the United Kingdom, without having to spend all your money on travelling abroad.

Hiking – as Britain boasts 15 National Parks, walking enthusiasts have no excuse not to shelve plans to go hiking across Europe and admire the breath-taking scenery we have on our own doorstep.

Surfing – this sport is something not usually something associated with this part of the world as most media portrays surfing beaches in the US and Australia, but while we may not always have the weather, we do still have the breaks to offer surfers.

Adventure sports – whether this be rock climbing, potholing or sky diving, there are many extreme sports which can be enjoyed in the UK.

Beach games – maybe you would just rather relax and spend time on a sandy beach, by the sea. Beach games are always a lot of fun for the whole family.

General information on camping at events

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

A great number of shows and festivals offer camping facilities nowadays for those already with tickets. With the majority of these you need to pre-book in order to reserve your pitch on the site. Over the course of this blog, we will look at some of the things you can expect when staying at one of these events.

How long you can camp for

Some events only allow you to stay over while the entertainment or activities are being held. For instance, you may have to arrange an alternative place to camp if you wish to arrive either side of the event duration. Early arrival may be allowed at other events.

Designated camping areas

It is not unusual to find that the field or site where the camping is available has been split up into designated areas based on various factors. You normally have to let the organisers know which area is applicable to you when booking your ticket.

As well as organised camping for disabled guests, VIPs and those with families, you sometimes find big open fields where the spots can be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Rules

Campsite organisers usually set out their guidelines at the outset and these can include noise curfews, stipulations on bringing pets and use of the toilet and water facilities provided.

Button keeps up pressure on Vettel

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Jenson Button showed the world that there is life in him yet as he took on title rival Sebastian Vettel and beat him to the flag at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend. This sets us up nicely for Silverstone in a few weeks’ time.

The Santander British Grand Prix which is due to take place at the famous Silverstone Circuit on Sunday the 10th July promises to be another top afternoon of Formula One car racing. The 52 laps will go a long way to deciding if the McLaren driver can catch up to the runaway leader in his Red Bull.

With Lewis Hamilton also likely to give us Brits something to shout about on the day as along with Jenson attempts the challenge of being able to win on home soil.

Tickets to this event are always in high demand and this year it will be no different. Three-day general admission tickets are still available (Friday to Sunday) and if you combine this with camping at the renowned Whittlebury Park Golf & Country Club, you will be able to stay close to the action. This is the closest camp site to the track and there is evening entertainment planned for the weekend too, so motorhome hire could be your best option.

A weekend rock festival in London

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

If you want to visit the capital, see your favourite rock band play and make a complete weekend of it, then why not consider Hard Rock Calling 2011?

Yes, it is under two weeks away but you could be seeing The Killers, Bon Jovi or Rod Stewart headlining the concerts, which are due to take place between Friday the 24th and Sunday the 26th of June.

The stage at Hyde Park always brings out the best in the bands and this is a great event, now into its 40th year.

The venue may be located in the heart of central London, but you can still choose to stay within touching distance of the park by staying in a campsite on the outskirts of the city. This way you can save money that you would normally be expected to stay when booking a prime location hotel.

Motorhome rental is an excellent way to benefit from this situation as you can stay in a camping facility in the Green Belt area close to the River Thames. As London boasts an impressive transport network you will soon find yourself where you want to be –with the city centre just 30 minutes away by train.
