Ghost busting holiday ideas

If you are a person who takes a certain thrill in checking out old castles, houses and abbeys to see if they might be haunted and if all the stories are indeed true, then you will be interested to know that the National Trust now offers access to some of the spookiest properties in the country.

Many of the old buildings that the National Trust cares for are interesting historic places to visit and you will also be able to test the rumours that some of these are the homes of a number of spooks.

Rufford Old Hall in Lancashire

There are said to be three apparitions at this location, with the ghost of the lady in grey being the most seen. The back story of Mrs Elizabeth Hesketh is that her husband never returned from war and she had made a vow never to leave this world without saying goodbye.

Blickling Hall in Norfolk

Sir Henry Hobart who died from duelling is said to be heard in his death throes in Blickling, while Anne Boleyn has been seen wandering the grounds of this medieval manor.

Buckland Abbey in Devon

The national hero Sir Francis Drake is rumoured to haunt his former abode.
